Principal’s Welcome

As Principal, I am proud to lead a school unlike any other.

As part of the prestigious Mossbourne Federation, our academic outcomes rank among the very best in the country. At the same time, as a local school serving South Hackney, we have a distinctive character and ethos that are very much our own. 

Visitors to the academy consistently comment on the politeness and cheerfulness of our students, the beauty of our listed school building, and the energy, commitment and enthusiasm of our staff. These qualities are no accident. They are the result of a clear and purposeful approach to education, underpinned by high expectations for everyone in our community. 

Our template for success is deliberately traditional. Subjects are taught as discrete disciplines; students are expected to complete homework from the very start of Year 7; and poor behaviour or rudeness is never accepted. This culture enables students to develop independence, diligence and pride in everything they do. As a result, they excel not only academically, but also beyond the classroom, producing outstanding plays and musical productions, performing in regular concerts and recitals, and representing the school in sport, often training voluntarily on Well Street Common from as early as 7.00 am. 

Alongside academic excellence, we place great emphasis on what we call the ‘invisible curriculum’. Manners, conversation, personal presentation and honesty are highly valued at Mossbourne Victoria Park. We work in close partnership with parents and carers to guide students through these formative years, ensuring they develop the character as well as the qualifications needed for future success.
