Further Education and Careers
Raising aspirations
Empowering informed choices
At Mossbourne Sixth Form, we consistently challenge our students to raise their aspirations and aim high. Through our strong partnerships with universities and wider educational providers, students are given meaningful opportunities to experience higher education first-hand, helping them to see ambitious pathways as both accessible and achievable.
With all students now required to remain in education or training until the age of 18, it is more important than ever that they are fully informed about the opportunities available to them. We ensure that every student understands their post-16 and post-18 options, knows how to access high-quality information, and is equipped to make confident, well-informed decisions about their future.
Ethics, Transition and Citizenship (ETC) Programme
Developing perspective and personal responsibility
Our Ethics, Transition and Citizenship (ETC) programme provides dedicated time for students to reflect, discuss and grow alongside their peers. Within form groups, students engage in structured, discussion-based sessions led by their form tutor, exploring a range of topics designed to deepen their understanding of their role in society and the wider world. This programme supports the development of critical thinking, communication skills and personal awareness.
UCAS and university applications
Guided every step of the way
As part of the ETC programme, students are carefully guided through the university application process. Form tutors provide structured support with researching courses and institutions, as well as crafting thoughtful and competitive personal statements. This ensures that students approach their applications with clarity, confidence and ambition.
Careers advice and guidance
Supporting every pathway
Students benefit from access to impartial and professional careers guidance, ensuring that they are supported in exploring a full range of pathways, including further education, higher education, apprenticeships and employment. Families are encouraged to be part of this process, recognising the importance of shared decision-making.
Our in-house careers provision is further strengthened through a range of practical and high-quality experiences. All students undertake a two-week work experience placement in the summer term of Year 12, enabling them to explore potential career pathways and gain first-hand insight into the workplace. Guest speakers and representatives from a wide range of local employers and industry sectors are routinely invited to deliver talks as part of the enrichment programme, offering valuable insight into employment and apprenticeship opportunities. In addition, students attend university and apprenticeship fairs, where they can engage directly with a broad range of national and international institutions and employers.
Through this comprehensive programme, students are empowered to make informed choices, develop independence and take confident steps towards their future.
