The Mossbourne Medical Society runs across both of the Federation’s secondary schools and is comprised of two programmes:

• MedSoc for Year 7-11 students

• Medicine Bursary and MedSoc for selected who join us in the Mossbourne Sixth Form

MedSoc 7-11 and Mossbourne Sixth Form MedSoc is our internal outreach programme designed to introduce students to the wide range of career paths in healthcare they could aspire to follow. Activities offered include the UK’s first school-based NHS Cadets course in Year 9.

If joining the Mossbourne Sixth Form, students have the opportunity to join the Medicine Bursary programme, which has been developed to help young people, especially those who do not have parents who went on to higher education, prepare for the rigorous process of applying to study Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science at university.

Medicine Bursary activities include:

• Discussions with visiting healthcare professionals

• Group projects and presentations

• Simulated medical scenarios

• Access to relevant work experience and volunteer opportunities

• First aid training

• Expert support and mentoring whilst applying to degree courses
