Enrichment

At Mossbourne Fobbing Academy, extracurricular provision forms a vital part of school life, extending learning beyond the classroom and fostering confidence, creativity and community spirit. Enrichment activities take place before school, at lunch and after school, ensuring broad access for all pupils.

Participation is strong, with well over 85% of the year group engaging in at least one extracurricular activity. A busy calendar of up to 50 trips and visits each year further enhances pupils’ academic understanding, bringing learning to life through real-world experiences.

We are committed to ensuring equity in provision for all students, which is why we dedicate significant time inside the timetabled curriculum to co-curricular provision through the Bourne Scholar programme.

The Bourne Scholar Programme

Unique to Mossbourne, the Bourne Scholar is a carefully planned carousel of enrichment underpinned by the four pillars of community, culture, scholarship and character.

All students study topics such as Climate Change, First Aid, Philosophy, Charity & Advocacy, Ancient Worlds and Diversity.

Students are encouraged to ask questions and find their voice in these fascinating lessons, equipping them with the high-leverage vocabulary, ideas, knowledge and oracy needed to excel in the world.

Other Opportunities

Below is an indicative summary to illustrate the many enrichment opportunities open to Mossbournians. Please note this list is subject to change, depending on the interests of students and staff:

Performing Arts Specialism

At Mossbourne Fobbing Academy, Performing Arts is central to school life. As a long-standing specialist area, dance, drama, art and music are woven throughout the curriculum and wider academy experience.

Our aim is simple: to nurture confident, independent and creative young people. Through performance and artistic exploration, students develop discipline, resilience and the ability to think critically and express themselves with clarity.

We deliver a rich and varied curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4, supported by modern, well-equipped facilities and a commitment to innovative practice. Students explore technique, history, preparation and evaluation, building both practical skill and cultural understanding.

Performance opportunities are extensive, including musicals, concerts, dance shows, exhibitions and plays, alongside assemblies and community events. A strong extracurricular offer and partnerships with arts professionals further enrich students’ experiences.

Collaboration across subjects ensures creativity extends beyond the arts, strengthening learning throughout the curriculum. At Mossbourne Fobbing Academy, Performing Arts is not just a subject — it is a powerful driver of confidence, achievement and whole-school culture.
