Enrichment

At Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy, we are passionate about enriching students’ experiences beyond the academic curriculum. We are committed to ensuring equity in provision for all students, which is why we dedicate significant time inside the timetabled curriculum to co-curricular provision:

The Bourne Scholar Programme

Unique to Mossbourne, the Bourne Scholar is a carefully planned carousel of enrichment underpinned by the four pillars of community, culture, scholarship and character. All students study topics such as Climate Change, First Aid, Philosophy, Charity & Advocacy, Ancient Worlds and Diversity. Students are encouraged to ask questions and find their voice in these fascinating lessons, equipping them with the high-leverage vocabulary, ideas, knowledge and oracy needed to excel in the world.

Prep Co-Curricular Programme

From Fashion to Electronics, Japanese to Poetry, there is something for everyone. All students choose at least two clubs to attend each year, ensuring that all students are supported in finding new hobbies or nurturing existing ones.

Other Opportunities

Below is an indicative summary to illustrate the many enrichment opportunities open to Mossbournians. Please note this list is subject to change, depending on the interests of students and staff:

Assemblies, trips and standalone cultural events such as Black History Month ensure students’ experiences are culturally rich and socially grounded.

Together, Mossbourne’s extracurricular provision ensures that every student leaves not only with exceptional qualifications, but with the confidence, character and cultural capital to thrive at the highest levels.

Oratory Specialism

At Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy, confident and articulate communication is central to academic success and personal development. Our Oratory specialism ensures students develop the skills to speak clearly, formally and confidently in a range of contexts.

Through debate, discussion, public speaking, drama and recital, students explore performative, discursive and competitive talk both in lessons and bespoke activities. The Oracy Passport supports pupils in mastering standard English, adapting tone and register appropriately, and communicating with clarity.

Students who require additional support follow a tailored oracy programme focused on specific areas of spoken language development, building confidence and presence in a supportive environment.

Two dedicated Oracy Days each year place talk at the heart of learning, supported by partnerships with organisations such as Debate Mate, Talk The Talk and Speak Out Challenge.

From poetry recitals and Academy Production to Student Parliament and public speaking competitions, strong oracy underpins all that we do.
